We're here to help you get the most out of your journaling experience.
Tap the + button on the home screen. Choose whether the event was good, neutral, or bad. For neutral entries, a spectrum slider lets you capture the subtle shade from −5 to +5. Describe what happened and rate the intensity. You can also attach up to 5 photos, audio recordings, or documents. Tap the microphone icon next to any text field to dictate hands-free.
The Feelings Wheel is a guided three-step picker that helps you name what you feel: first a core emotion (happy, sad, fearful, angry, surprised, disgusted or "bad day"), then a sub-emotion, then a precise word like proud, defeated, anxious, hopeful, grateful or overwhelmed. It is fully optional — tap "Not sure, just log it" any time to skip it. Open it from the choice dialog when starting a new entry.
Tap the microphone icon next to any text field. Speak normally and your words are transcribed straight into the entry. Long-press the microphone for hands-free locked recording. Recognition runs entirely on your device on iOS where supported, so audio never leaves your phone. You can review and edit the text before saving.
The Experts tab helps you find psychiatrists, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists and mental-health centres near you. Listings come from OpenStreetMap — the free, volunteer-built map of the world — queried through the public Nominatim (geocoding) and Overpass (search) services. Each card shows the address, phone, website and opening hours that local contributors have added. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License (ODbL). No account, no paid placements, no data shared with anyone. A gentle weekly nudge can be turned off forever with one tap.
No. Core journaling features work entirely without an account. Sign in with Google or Apple only if you want cloud backup or AI-powered insights. Google Sign-In is available on Android; Apple Sign-In is available on iOS.
Once signed in, enable backup from Settings. Your journal data is stored in a private folder on Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iOS) that only BrightLog can access. Auto-backup runs monthly, and you can also back up manually at any time. Up to 3 backups are kept, and backups older than one month are automatically cleaned up.
Install BrightLog on your new device, sign in with the same account, go to Settings > Backup & Restore, and select a backup to restore. All your entries, notes, and AI insights will be restored.
AI Insights use Google Gemini to analyse your journal entries and identify patterns in your habits, moods, and experiences over time. Available as monthly and yearly summaries. Requires sign-in and at least a few entries to generate meaningful insights.
Go to Settings > App Lock and toggle it on. BrightLog will use Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode to protect your journal. You can choose how quickly the app locks after you leave: after 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes. Your biometric data never leaves your device — all authentication is handled by the operating system.
Absolutely. Your journal entries are stored locally on your device. We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising. Cloud backups are stored in your own private cloud storage. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
Go to Settings > Notifications and enable daily reminders. You can choose the time that works best for your routine.
Yes. Go to Settings > Export to generate a PDF or CSV of your journal entries that you can save or share. You can also export individual AI insight reports as PDF from the monthly or yearly insight screens, or email a summary report directly from Settings.
You can delete individual entries by swiping left on them. To delete all BrightLog data at once (local entries, cloud backups, and your sign-in session), go to Settings > Delete All BrightLog Data. This removes everything in a single step — your Apple ID or Google account will not be affected.
